The Way Out
The book Exodus literally means – “the way out,” a journey from bondage and slavery into freedom under God’s authority. It is the learning process of unlearning acquired behaviours, cultural influences, and mindsets that is not of God. While Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob knew who God was, the Israelites needed a reintroduction in contrast to Egypt’s pantheon of gods.
The Providence of God
Joseph was cherished above all by his father, Israel, and was gifted the renowned multicolored robe. When Joseph shared his dreams of his brothers—and even celestial bodies—bowing to him, their jealousy morphed into betrayal. They sold him into slavery to a caravan of Ishmaelites passing by, who then took him to Egypt and sold him to Potiphar, the captain of Pharaoh's guard.
